Prologue

Rain lashed against the tall windows, each thunderclap rattling through the room like a warning. The storm outside was nothing compared to the one raging inside Mahira.

Tears blurred her vision as they streamed down her cheeks. Her chest ached, her breaths coming out uneven. Every answer she thought she had about him had shattered, leaving behind nothing but confusion.

"Who are you?" she whispered, her voice breaking.

Then louder.

"Who are you, Aahan?"

Her fists struck against his chest again and again—not enough to hurt him, only enough to release the frustration and heartbreak trapped inside her.

"I don't know you anymore," she cried. "Every time I think I've figured you out, another side of you appears. You have so many faces, so many secrets. I don't know which one is real."

Aahan stood motionless, his expression unreadable.

Dangerously unreadable.

The kind of silence that always frightened her more than anger ever could.

Mahira's hands trembled as she looked up at him through tear-filled eyes.

"Tell me who you are."

For a moment, the room fell silent except for the relentless rain.

Then Aahan moved.

His hand closed around her waist, pulling her forward before she could take a step back. The sudden movement stole the air from her lungs. She collided against his chest, trapped by the strength of his hold.

His gaze lowered to her face.

Cold. Dark. Impossible to read.

"It's better if you don't know all my sides, Mahira."

His voice was quiet.

That somehow made it worse.

A shiver ran through her spine.

Aahan brushed away a tear that escaped down her cheek, his eyes never leaving hers.

"Some doors are safer left unopened."

The storm rumbled outside.

And standing in his arms, staring into those dark, secret-filled eyes, Mahira realized something terrifying.

The more she learned about Aahan Malik...The less she understood him.

Mahira's breath hitched as Aahan's grip on her waist tightened just enough to stop her from pulling away.

The storm roared outside, rain striking the windows like a thousand restless thoughts. Tears continued to slip down her cheeks, but for the first time, she couldn't look away from him.

"Aahan..." she whispered, her voice trembling.

His jaw clenched.

For a moment, something dangerous flickered behind his usually unreadable eyes.

Not anger.

Not cruelty.

Something far more unsettling.

Possession.

"You keep asking who I am," he said quietly.

"But some answers won't give you peace, Mahira."

A tear rolled down her cheek.

"Then let me go."

The words hung between them.Aahan stared at her for a long moment before letting out a humorless laugh.

"Let you go?"

The darkness in his gaze deepened.

"I couldn't do that then."

His voice dropped lower.

"I can't do it now."

Another crack of thunder echoed through the room.

Aahan took a step back, yet his eyes never left hers.

"And I don't think I'll ever be able to."Mahira's heart pounded painfully against her ribs.

Because for the first time, she realized this was never a battle between right and wrong. It was a collision between a girl trying to escape fate...and a man who had already decided she wasn't leaving.
